Skin Cancer/Melanoma

Overview

The UC Health skin cancer team—made up on medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, dermatologists, fellowship-trained surgical oncologists and experienced cancer nurses—offers something only an academic health center-based team can: access to the latest, most innovative medical treatments through clinical trials, including new targeted monoclonal antibody and vaccine therapies.

For patients affected by the more common types of skin cancer—basal and squamous cell, our team of fellowship-trained dermatologic surgeons offer highly skilled micrographic surgery, known as Mohs micrographic surgery.  This technique involves microscopically analyzing cancerous tissues as they are removed to ensure that the “roots” of the cancer are eliminated. It also allows the surgeon to preserve healthy surrounding tissues while giving patients a more cosmetically appealing result.

Like all UC Health physicians, our skin cancer specialists also serve as faculty members at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, giving them access to the latest scientifically validated medical information to help our patients live healthier lives. They also serve as educators for the next generation of physicians in training and provide continuing education opportunities for community physicians.
