Genitourinary Cancer

Overview

In partnership with UC Health, the UC Cancer Institute genitourinary cancer team specializes in treating all stages of prostate, kidney cancer, bladder, urothelial, adrenal and germ cell (testicular) tumors. Like all of our cancer programs, the genitourinary multidisciplinary program focuses on delivering the latest in discovery-driven medicine within the setting of a coordinated, multidisciplinary team of urologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, medical oncologists, fellowship-trained surgeons and a highly experienced oncology nursing staff.

Our University of Cincinnati Medical Center-based team is the only one in Greater Cincinnati to offer high-dose interleukin-2 immunotherapy for metastatic kidney cancer—the only treatment associated with “cure” in this disease—as well as the only team offering partial laparoscopic kidney-sparing cancer surgery.

When it comes to prostate cancer, our surgical team consistently ranks among the top 50 programs in US News & World Report and is the region’s particularly experienced in robotic prostatectomy. Research has shown that patients who are treated in high volume, academic based medical centers by an oncology-trained medical team have better outcomes in terms of decreased surgical complications and increased survival.

Like all UC Cancer Institute-affiliated physicians, our genitourinary cancer specialists also serve as faculty members at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine, giving them access to the latest scientifically validated medical information to help patients live healthier lives. They also serve as educators for the next generation of physicians in training and provide continuing education opportunities to established community physicians.
