Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Cancer Center
The University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute Comprehensive Gastrointestinal Cancer Center specializes in the treatment of cancers affecting the GI tract, including the stomach, pancreas, liver, large and small intestine, spleen, anus/rectum, gallbladder and peritoneal cavity.
- Experts in Gastrointestinal Cancer
Our sub-specialized, clinical team—made up of gastroenterologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, medical oncologists, fellowship-trained surgeons and a highly experienced oncology nursing staff—offers access to advanced surgical and medical techniques unavailable at other facilities in the Greater Cincinnati/Dayton region.
The UC Cancer Institute has special expertise in pancreatic and liver cancers, as well as managing complex cancer care cases. Tumor boards meet regularly as a team to discuss and determine the best treatment plan for patients given their individual situation.
We are the only medical center in the Greater Cincinnati/Dayton area to offer cytoreduction HIPEC (hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy) procedure for advanced appendix, colorectal, ovarian and mesothelioma cancers. This “chemobath” is used to treat cancers that have spread into the peritoneum. High dose chemotherapy treatment is applied directly to the affected area from inside the body at the time when the tumor is removed.
- Leaders in Medicine & Science
Our clinicians collaborate with UC basic scientists on translational research projects aimed at developing more effective treatment options for gastrointestinal cancers, driven by sound science.
Like all UC Cancer Institute-affiliated physicians, our GI cancer specialists also serve as faculty members at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Medicine, giving them access to the latest scientifically validated medical information to help patients live healthier lives. They also serve as educators for the next generation of physicians in training and provide continuing education opportunities for community physicians.
